Gunmetal Lace Cuff, $470

Much like art, the beauty of fashion is sometimes in the eye of the beholder. However, the art critics and fashionistas of the world will say to choose pieces that really speak to you. We found some highly artistic gems from Michelle Ng, artist, designer and creative director of Young&ng, that speak volumes on beauty. Her SS2012 collection of jewelry (her third collection since she started designing in 2010), transforms the pain of a broken heart into beautiful works of art. “It was much more about the aftermath of a broken heart – the feeling and the result,” she says. “Crushing shapes, and images of shards and glass, played a big part in the stencil work. I’m a huge fan of tragic love, and trying to find the beauty in all things bad makes life easier.”

Rose Gold Gloriole Headpiece, $660

The new collection, which includes signature headpieces and cuffs for which Young&ng is known, also includes necklaces, earrings and rings – all reflecting a heavy, shattered and broken feel in hues of rose gold and midnight. Although a broken heart serves as the recurring theme, the pieces are bold, powerful and edgy. “The elements that convey my signature looks are the intricate details and unusual sculpturing of the shapes,” Ng says.

We love the Rose Gold Gloriole Headpiece ($660) and the Gunmetal Lace Cuff ($470). Ng’s favorite, however, is the Heart Crown in Midnight Blue ($520). “I stenciled everything in that piece, and it took hours of work,” she says. “Literally, my heart and soul went into perfecting each line and hole.”

The complex yet refined pieces in the collection combine materials such as dyed brush plating with pearls, black pearls, ribbon and Czechoslovakian crystals. While the pieces are more akin to works of art than jewelry, they’ll go great with just about any item in your wardrobe. For example, the headbands and headpieces go great with jeans or little dresses, and the cuffs are created to hold up beautiful silk shirts with long sleeves.
