This Tuesday was the Summer solstice and this Sunday is 303’s first pool party of the season (register here if you haven’t already), which means it is officially bathing suit season. I won’t lie; I’m kind of a swimsuit hoarder. I like to indulge in each season’s trends, and mix and match with prior seasons’ suits. Good thing my California climate permits swimwear nearly year-round!
This year, swim trends run the gamut. From sleek and sophisticated to bold and bright, there are endless choices that allow for an endless summer.
The Merciless Monokini
The half one-piece, half bikini style has become a sea-side staple. Herve Leger’s white bandage version is ideal for pool-side cocktails, while Nycked’s lace-up version is perfect for an afternoon boat excursion. The monokini sure makes picking between a bikini and one-piece a whole lot easier.
Dot the “I” and Cross the “T”
Classic polka dots and nautical stripes are eponymous this season and they come in a variety of colors and styles. From Billabong’s striped neon men’s swim trunks to Juicy Couture’s blue and black mixed print bikini, sun-soakers can dot their “i’s and cross their “t”s in style.
Retro Revival
High-waisted and fuller bottom styles bring a retro twist to the summer season. I adore Sauipe’s classic black two-piece with metal adornments and ASOS’s playful cherry print two-piece, both of which offer a charming vintage vibe.
Bold and the Beautiful
Adding fun summer prints is made easier with colorful swimsuit designs like tie dye, floral, paisley and tribal. Bright bandeau tops from Shoshanna and Victoria Secret make a splash, while Vilebrequin offers guys graphic board shorts. Bold really is beautiful!
