Back in February, Paper Bird and Ballet Nouveau charmed Colorado folks with the enchanting, Carry On, which sold out every one of its six performances. The show, featuring a truly beautiful score written specifically for this ballet (and performed live by Paper Bird), is the creative tête à tête between BNC’s artistic director, Garrett Ammon, and the popular Denver band–a process that took well over a year to bring to fruition. Clearly, their collective efforts have paid off–Ballet Nouveau Colorado is having a special encore performance in celebration of Paper Bird’s CD release party of Carry On, June 11 at The Arvada Center’s Outdoor Amphitheater–a much larger venue than the one that housed the other six shows. And what is even cooler about this whole thing is that people have demanded to see it again. Not only is the marriage between the dances and the music a supreme bit of the creative expression both are known for, but it has exposed the core audiences of dance-heads and local music fiends to each other. During intermission for one of the shows, the line to buy Paper Bird CD’s was longer than the line for the restroom. What more proof do you need? Carry On is a bona-fide success.
If you were one of the unfortunates and missed it last time and have been kicking yourself since, this is your last chance to redeem yourself and see this remarkable and effortless show.
