Just because I know a good amount about trends – and am often an early adapter – does not mean I indulge in all trends. That being said, this trend is unavoidable, having been on many spring and fall runways and worn by fashion-forward celebs, and is now appearing on the streets of major cities. I’m deeming it the “shock” trend. The look encompasses a pretty, feminine ankle sock (or in some cases, a knee high or thigh high sock) with a high heel (often an open toe one).
While the look is a nod to retro femininity, is has certainly taken on a modern feel with chunkier shoes and more varieties of socks as seen at the Christian Dior and Burberry spring shows and the Marc Jacobs and DKNY fall shows.
Although I’m not necessarily a fan for the feet-focused fad, it is omnipresent and I can appreciate the artistic value of the style. I warn fashionistas to wear with caution…or else the “shock” trend will look shockingly silly!
