Karaoke Showdown: Denver’s Next Nightclub Star @ Lannie’s
Upon recently noticing that a Hawaiian getaway was up for grabs at a Lannie's-hosted karaoke competition, I began plotting my song choices. I've never been to Hawaii, but I loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall to death (and, as we all know, Hollywood's interpretation of a geographic locale is always spot on).

Aural Pleasure: VibeSquad
Whoever said white men can't crunk? Eerie-based Aaron Holstein is a walking argument to the contrary. Better known as VibeSquad, Holstein has been not-so-quietly churning out crunkadelic, bass-heavy beats in his hole-in-the-wall home studio for over a decade now. The VibeSquad sound is catching on too. Ever since laptop artists like Bassnectar and The Glitch Mob invaded Jamlandia after-hours events, more and more opportunities have been popping up for similarly inspired producers to follow suit. 303 Magazine recently rendezvoused with Holstein for a cup of virtual Yerba Mate.

CD Report Card: Bright Eyes & Neva Dinova – One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels
I will never forget the first time Bright Eyes blew my mind. Several of us, including VailPM.com founders Ryan and Nevada, were in Park City, Utah for Robert Redford's annual Sundance Film Festival. I had helped book Bassnectar at a club event called Mind Bender that also featured lucid dream guru Stephen LaBerge and author Daniel Pinchbeck.

Beatport Floorfillers: Bassnectar – Timestretch
If you thought Bassnectar was some sort of ceviche recipe, consider yourself officially out of touch with the underground. Lorin Ashton, long eclipsed by his strikingly accurate moniker, is an extremely versatile DJ, capable of juggling a plethora of genres within a single, continuously-mixed set. His sublime sunrise sets at Burning Man have soundtracked some of the finest, most memorable moments of my entire life.

Aural Pleasure: Eprom
Eprom, shorthand for erasable programmable read-only memory, is the moniker of Bay Area-based Sander Dennis, slated to slay Owsley's Golden Road (2151 Lawrence) this Friday, January 22. Picture Super Mario getting his freak on, a la Missy Elliot, and you'll have an inkling of what to expect from his set.

Aural Pleasure: Ana Sia
DJs that don't dance to their own music should be suspect IMO. It's the same “Do as I say, not as I do,†attitude that smoking parents often wield. Talk about setting a pathetic example. Ana will never have that problem. She was a dancer long before being a dance-floor choreographer, and has never been shy about multi-tasking.
