Gov’t Mule and Yonder Mountain String Band teamed up for a night of soulful strings and bluesy bust outs with the help of 21-year old Marcus King of the Marcus King Band. Rarely do I make in into Red Rocks by 5:30 to see the first opener on the bill, but if you know anything about Marcus King you were inside waiting patiently for the phenom to start the show. Haynes joined Yonder Mountain String Band for part of their set, pausing on traditional bluegrass to play some bluesy tracks. The full band of Gov’t Mule busted out some ABB covers on their own, bringing Marcus King back on for a fiery “Whipping Post”.
