Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats returned to Denver to deliver an intimate set of their unique blues rock soul. The band has been on a career run the last year and a half, and showed how their decade-plus devotion and talent has turned into an internationally recognized act. Wildlight mesmerized The Boulder Theater last Friday night. Alya Nero began with songs from her independent acoustic work, honoring our earth and it's elements. She embodied that of a goddess with a great connection to the world around her and spectacular tonal range. The English unground invaded Cervantes Masterpiece last night. Nightmares On Wax DJ Set created a perpetual groove of deep drum and bass. The crowd was electrified by DJ Ease dropped beats from his new mixtapes. Nightmares On Wax showed Colorado what classic electronic dance has been mastering for over three decades. The duo of the month...maybe even the year. The one and only Madeon x Porter Robinson. The amazing two put on a beautiful, upbeat performance for their Shelter Tour playing tracks from both amazing solo albums by each other like "Adventure" and "Worlds" you couldn't miss it. I saw The Fray for the first time in 2007, my first concert. Now on their 4th studio album, The Fray returned to their home state to the 1st Bank Center packed full of their hometown fans. American Authors, a Brooklyn, NY based band opened for The Fray and got the crowd and the screaming fangirls warmed up. The Fray balanced their set with new singles and old favorites such as "You Found Me". 9 years after the first time I saw them, they're as captivating and talented as ever.

Shovels and Rope ended their tour November 19th at the Ogden Theater on Colfax. The energetic duo played to a pack house for over an hour and a half. Los Angeles based rock group Bad Suns sold out the Bluebird Theater this Tuesday to a horde of screaming fans. Bad Suns released their newest album "Disappear Here" and combined with their hits from their debut EP, they had the crowd dancing and singing all night.

DFW Night One started things off with a BANG. Featuring Femme Fatale Intimates, Mona Lucero, Gino Velardi, Steve Sells, Maggie Burns, Anthony H, Tyne Hall, Rachel Marie Hurst and NIGHT by Charlie Price. Denver showed up in force to support these local and national boutiques and brands.
Kiiara showed Denver what true savage was last night at Summit Music Hall. Her elusive air behind big sunglasses and bright lights made the show that much more alluring. She performed alongside a drummer and keyboardist to create her soon to be iconic sound of looping verses and vocal notes to create a techno melody. The Motet brought the funk to the Ogden for a second sold out night in their self-proclaimed second home town. Colorado has a soft spot for funk and jam bands and it shined through as everyone danced the night away. After a quick set break, we were treated to a "1979 Mixtape" where the band came out in 70s attire to cover bands such as Earth, Wind, and Fire. The Motet couldn't have brought more positive vibes and funky music if they tried.

Sturgill Simpson breaks the common stereotype of a modern country singer. Between his thundering vocals and impeccable guiatar work he is a country force to be reckoned with. Accompanied buy a full band and horn section, Sturgills sounds was even more full and refined for the 2 sold out nights at the Paramount Theater.

Mac Miller and friends graced the stage on Halloween for the 2nd year in a row. With all star hip-hop cast including Pouya, Big K.R.I.T. and Vince Staples Red Rocks was treated to a real show. On the Divine Feminine tour, Mac has been bring along love interest Ariana Grande to many of the shows, and of course Red Rocks was not left out. She made a surprise appearance on stage and left the crown in awe at the last Red Rocks show of the season.

The queer, glammy and genuinely hilarious duo (and this time trio) PWR BTTM have a genuine talent and feel for pop punk music. Ben Hopkins and Liv Bruce swap roles between lead guitar and drums while playfully telling stories and jokes in between songs. Lost Lake was packed to capacity and full of glitter as they played and the crowd sang along to some of their most popular songs Ugly Cherries, and I Wanna Boi.

Cherub killed it last night as they headlined Red Rocks for the first time. The night certainly started off with a bang as openers Boo Seeka, Friendship and Gorgon City amped up the crowd for what was to come. Once Jason and Jordan hit the stage the crowd became intoxicated with excitement as the boys jammed alongside their new added band to classics and new soon to be hits off their new album. Earlier in the day Cherub sat down with 303 for an exclusive interview and photoshoot. From which they had enjoyed our golden skeleton so much that they added it to the stage decorum. The crowd was dressed in creative Halloween costumes, including some classic Cherub album cover attire. The legendary Stevie Nicks returned to the Pepsi Center last night to enchant her faithful Colorado audience. The Pretenders opened for Stevie amping the crowd up for what was to sure to be a magical night. Stevie fulfilled her promise to give Colorado “the show they’ve been wanting for the last thirty years, even if some of them might not remember the last thirty years” jousting at her new younger generation of admirers. If you have ever been to the Larimer Lounge you can understand how intimate the setting is. The crowd pressed against the stage as Lewis Del Mar played above and around the crowd. After jamming through the night the band hung out after and introduced themselves to a handful of fans that stuck around. It was a very close up evening for Lewis Del Mar and those that attended.
The Canadian duo Purity Ring mesmerized The Ogden Theatre with lights and crystallized sounds. From the ceiling hung two walls of color changing lights that lead vocalist Megan James danced through. If you stumbled downtown yesterday unaware of what was happening you might have jumped to grab your crossbow for the dead were walking among us. This year's Denver Zombie Crawl was a grotesque spectacle of blood stained ghouls haunting the 16th Street Mall. The Fillmore Auditorium was transformed into a psychedelic circus this past Friday. Re:Creation featured dub beats by Shpongle, Ott and Desert Dwellers. Everywhere you looked fascination and curiosities were to behold. Fire dancers, aerial acrobats, virtual reality simulations, hula hoopers, runway models, and live painting were just a few of the key elements to this trippy all immersive performance. A lively and loud show, Grouplove at the Ogden played for an extremely excited crowd. Not to mention DILLY DALLY, and MUNA built the suspense and stoke as the night carried on. Everyone was jumping and raising their hands in the air while singing along to some of Grouplove's most popular songs.
After this show had ended I wondered if I had taken anything unusual before I left the house. From the moment Of Montreal took the stage in black cloaks with smoke protruding from them the audience was set to go for a wild ride. The entire show was like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", "A Clockwork Orange" and "Alice in Wonderland" all rolled up into a music video. With multiple costume changes and appearances from some of the wildest creatures ever imagined this show kept everyone guessing at what might be coming next. Of Montreal's music has always sparked the imagination and their live performance brought the things you'd see in your head to reality.
Denver Yogis let their true light shine through at Soul Pose today. Soul Pose hosted four black light classes today at The National Western Complex. Everyone was decorated head to toe with neon coloring, flowing together and throwing confetti all over the complex. Photographs by Meg O'Neill.

Day 1 of the great and notorious Snowboard on the Block Festival kicked off yesterday. Even though it started at 5p.m. there was still a good show up of people who came to do three things. Watch the best of the best snowboard movies, see live music with Chief Keef & Mimosa, and see some of the biggest brands display their new merch and shop for their discounted stuff too. The Paramount Theatre was full with people of all ages on a Monday night for the Alessia Cara show. Ruth B. opened the show and captivated the audience with her smooth vocals. Alessia then stole the stage with her undeniable talent, relatable lyrics and genuine nature. Though she's one of the biggest up-and-coming artists, she spoke to the audience as if they were all her friends. Many had their hands up the whole time and passionately sang along to her raspy and soulful vocals.

Thrash gods Slayer and Anthrax blew everyone off their feet last night at the Fillmore! The energy was non stop and the circle pit was as endless as could be. We all knew when that curtain dropped hell was going to be unleashed! The insane guitar shredding, brutal riffs, and countless amounts of headbanging, what more could you ask for?! The Boulder Theater creates an intimate and amazing sound. That combined with the lively Strumbellas and Cold War Kids made for quite an amazing show. The Strumbellas kept the crowd entertained with jokes and light tunes, while the Cold War Kids aimed to leave all of it on the stage. The first night of the Great American Beer Festival went off with out a hinge and beer drinkers united in costumes, pretzel necklaces and one in a pretzel, beef jerky ammunition belt. Don’t let the tutu and glittered violin fool you, Lindsey Stirling is a total badass. No only were her self written songs on violin captivating, but she danced a mixture of ballet hip hop while playing. Lindsey took the art of storytelling to a whole new level with dance moves, chords, drums, keyboards, and a desire to live genuinely. Her spark lite up the stage at Red Rocks, inspiring the audience to never give up on their dreams when told they were a “Winnie the Pooh and not a Disney Princess.” Photography by Meg O’Neill.

Sigur Rós brought their uplifting and unique sound to Denver, CO Tuesday night 9/27. After a last minute venue change to accommodate the lighting and visuals that accompanied the band, spectators were presented with a unique light show involving lasers, LEDs, spotlights, and projected images. The brilliant lights complemented Sigur Rós' dazzling sound and took the crowd on a journey they won't forget.
Die Antwoord got freaky at The Ogden Theatre this past Monday. This South African Hip Hop / EDM group consists of two lead rappers Ninja and Yolandi, and DJ God, whose style and charisma is unlike to any seen in the US. Fans of Leon Bridges filed into the Fillmore Auditorium off Colfax in Denver, CO. Opener Lianne La Havas woo'd the crowd awake with soulful chords and a british accent. Leon Bridges took to the stage with his radio single Smooth Sailin' followed by a large collection of dance moves circa 19050. The melodic downtempo beats of Lotus took over Red Rocks Amphitheatre last night. Those smart enough to sit up at the top of the amphitheatre witnessed a blood red moon rising over the horizon for the last bit of El Ten Eleven's set. Tycho followed El Ten Eleven, playing their sweet tunes at Red Rocks for their fourth time. By the time Lotus came on the moon was high in the sky, as their music carried fans high into the night. New Jersey's Railroad Earth blessed Red Rocks last Friday. Braving a quick hail storm, and combing bluegrass with jamming rock, the sextet kept the crowd moving until the very end.
What a show to not miss! Last night legends Blink 182, A Day To Remember, and The-All American Rejects stopped by Denver and threw a party, and yes there was beach balls and confetti. The-All American Rejects had their classic songs we all know and sang along to for getting us all ready for the night. After that A Day To Remember brought even more energy and giant beach balls! Opening with 'Downfall of Us All' had everyone jumping, which is good because the lead singer Jeremy came into the crowd running inside a giant hampster ball! Super group The Prophets of Rage brought together members of Rage Against the Machine, Cypress Hill and Public Enemy for one of the most high-energy shows of the 2016 Red Rocks season. The group lived up to their expectation as one of the most anticipated acts on the summer tour circuit playing a set mostly consisting of Rage's most known tracks, as well as hits from Public Enemy and Cypress Hill.

It really did “seem like Happiness, Everywhere” this past weekend in Telluride, CO as Pretty Lights and his loyal tribe filled this sleepy mountain town with groovy vibes. Derek Vincent Smith teaming up with his five piece band and the infamous Laser Shark hypnotized the crowd with rainbows of lights, deep bass and funky electronic tempo. Returning for the fourth year, High Plains Comedy Festival brought a fine selection of comedians to South Broadway and the Paramount Theater this weekend, delivering laughs with every performance. With live tapings, game shows, rap battles, improv stand-up and more, High Plains represented a broad spectrum of comedy that pleased just about every demographic. Of course, there were some topics that kept cropping up—like weed jokes, the income inequality between men and women and (parents, cover your children’s eyes) dick jokes. Yes, those were in full force this weekend and the audiences could not get enough. 303 Magazine checked out the busy scene and gathered some highlights for those of you who missed out on the laughs. Shakey Graves surprised Denver with a free concert this Saturday in Denver. Located off 17th and Lawrence, the show took place on hidden plaza above the city. Sponsored by Budweiser the theme was saturated with patriotism. Almost all of the performers, which also included Pandas and People and Head for the Hills, stopped and asked the crowd to "raise a Bud" for America. The crowd happily obliged. Cheers! Denver local, Nathaniel Ratliff took to his knees and bowed to the sold-out Red Rocks Amphitheater while the Preservation Hall Jazz Band played behind him—the rest was history. Harmonies raised over the rocks and emptied into the canyons and down to Morrison, CO. Nathaniel Ratliff stated he would attend shows at the historic venue, smoke and drink wine and dream of playing the greatest venue in the world. What a refreshing evening of heartfelt live music. Sarah McLachlan filled the Pepsi Center with her amazing musical talents and she shared stories and the inspirations behind her songs, including one guy she dated that turned out to be an asshole, as she called him. Josh's performance wowed the audience not only with his amazing voice, but with his humor, stories, and support from an orchestra band. Josh also shared his love of Colorado and enjoying his two days off around the state among his many interactions with the crowd. Two live performances you will want to see again and again. Curiosities covered every corner of the ARISE Festival this weekend as artists, musicians, yogis and free spirits gathered to celebrate love and life. Between acrobatics, yoga classes, painting and song writing workshops, cannabinus and creativity panels, compost seminars and much more there was never an unenlightened moment to be had. Musicians like Jurassic 5, Elephant Revival, Wildlight, Rising Appalachia, Papadosio, Ziggy Marley and many more kept the good vibes going all three days and nights of this beautiful festival. The Avett Brothers performed three nights at Red Rocks Amphitheater. On Saturday, J. Mascis warmed up the SOLD OUT audience with his funky guitar, followed by The Brother's soulful folk. The Sufjan Stevens concert was one for the books! If you weren't there, after seeing these pictures, you will surely be sad you missed out on this epic performance. RHYE’s sultry voice dismissed the afternoon thunderstorms, singing beneath a double rainbow. And as though welcoming Sufjan Stevens onto the stage, the colors of the rainbow, reflected the colorful show put on by the entire band. Sufjan Stevens rocked red rocks to it’s core with vibrant colors, fantastical lights, rocking dance moves, and the iridescent wings. On Saturday April 30, Denver food and beer lovers gathered at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, the WWII-era hangar in the Lowry community of Denver, for one of the city’s marquee craft beer and culinary pairing events. The national "nose to tail" cooking competition once again returned to Denver this weekend. Taking place at the Ritz-Carlton, the top culinary talent in the Mile High competed for the crown of porc prince or princess. This year's winner was Troy Guard and his crew from TAG restaurant. They will go on to the final round, the Grand Cochon, held in Aspen, Colorado on June 20.
The final day of the Burton US Open came to a close today. If you were a Colorado local or just visiting from out of town, Vail was the place to be.
