Leonardo da Vinci’s work has lived through generations. He was many things — inventor, artist, scientist, anatomist and architect, to name a few — and his extraordinary legacy has been recognized across the world for nearly 500 years. Now, the most comprehensive exhibition about Leonardo ever presented is coming to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

On March 1, Leonardo da Vinci: 500 Years of Genius is coming to the Mile High City. Guests can expect to be taken through a journey of da Vinci’s notes, sketches and inventions by means of carefully re-created codices. These books show the creatives work through the ages as he established the groundwork for the machines and devices that he would go on to imagine. From the helicopter to the airplane, automobile, submarine and even military tank — da Vinci’s work was a premonition of many of the groundbreaking machines to come and now Denver dwellers will be able to see those ideas first hand. In addition, the display includes the only 360-degree replica ever made of the Mona Lisa as a part of the “Secrets of Mona Lisa,” an exclusive show previewing an analysis of the iconic painting conducted at the Louvre by scientific engineer and photographer Pascal Cotte.

Through high-definition motion graphics and surround sound, combined with authentic photography and video footage, the Leonardo da Vinci will also provide a cinematic experience will provide a breathtaking display of his codices, computer-generated imagery and art. Guests can even test a da Vinci-inspired catapult and create their own codex page with a self-portrait or still life. The Museum’s historical enactors will also be on hand, to present characters who bring a personal perspective to the story of Leonardo.
