The Lowdown: Enjoy Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe Art on the Film Summer Series this Thursday. Hosted at the Center for Visual Art, MSU Denver, the event strives to offer guests a chance to see a free art-house film, enjoy live music from local bands, food trucks and late-night viewing of the 528.0 Regional Printmaking Exhibition. How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse

The Lowdown: With everything else that’s going on in the world, a zombie apocalypse might not be the worst thing. In case it happens, there’s an event ready to prepare you on how to survive. This Thursday at McNichols Civic Center, brainstorm and learn how to survive a zombie apocalypse. Warm Cookies of the Revolution will discuss, “What are the actual zombies in our community? What if we don’t agree on what they are or how and when to address them?” Join in on figuring out how Denver is preparing for what some may call an inevitable apocalypse.

The Science Lounge: Space Oddity

The Lowdown: Ground control to Denver, head to the Museum of Nature and Science for a unique stargazing opportunity. You will dive into the myths behind constellations in the museum’s Planetarium. Space Oddity will explore sex in gender in the ancient world, a topic not discussed often. Afterward, you will get to look at the constellations through telescopes. The event is in partnership with the GLBT Community Center of Colorado as part of PrideFest week.

National Lobster Day at Blue Island Oyster Bar & Seafood

Pride Night with the Colorado Rockies

The Lowdown: Celebrate the beginning of Denver’s Pride weekend with the Colorado Rockies this Friday as they take on the San Francisco Giants. The game will showcase the Rockies’ dedication to the LGBTQ+ scene in Denver for their Pride Night game. Further, this year’s Pride Night falls on the 2017 Outsports Reunion, where other LGBTQ+ members of the sport industry, whether they are coaches, athletes or trainers will come together to discuss their individual stories and build up the community.

Silent Disco Street Party at The Square on 21st

The Lowdown: Denver’s very first pop-up park opens this week with The Square on 21st. To celebrate, the cool new concept is hosting a silent disco party. Featuring tunes from three DJs spinning different genres and Great Divide and Mile High Spirits slinging drinks, it’s sure to be a good time. Colorado BBQ Challenge

Cost: Free Admission

The Lowdown: Summertime means BBQ time. At the Colorado BBQ Challenge, sample a wide variety of barbecue creations from over 70 vendors all vying for the title of Grand Champion. Simply purchase hogbucks at the event — $1 per hogbuck — and use them to purchase the best barbecue the state has to offer. The festival will also feature live music, food demos, the Breckenridge Distillery Whiskey Tour and the Bacon Burner 6k.

90’s Night!

Fever Dream Festival

There will be 13 plays including five full-length, two one acts and six 10-minute shorts in the performance reading format including An Invitation Out by Shualee Cook, Blood Pact by Brenda Foley, Blue Lagoon by Thomas Pierce and many more. Kate Folkins, Marc Stith, Missy Moore, Neil Truglio and Andrew Uhlenhopp will direct the plays and actors and actresses will feature John Ashton, John Hauser, Drew Hirschboeck, Candace Joice, Carla Kaiser Kotrc and others.

Denver PrideFest

The Lowdown: Celebrate the thriving LGBQT+ community in Denver at the annual Denver PrideFest. The festival in Denver is acclaimed as one of the top 10 in the country, and one that you definitely won’t want to miss. Support the community as an ally or attend the event proudly as a LGBQT+ member. There will be three stages playing music and hosting entertainment, as well as vendors, food and plenty of beer. Saturday will be the Dogs in Drag Parade, then see the Coors Light PrideFest Parade starting at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday in Cheesman Park as it heads to Civic Center Park.

Bow, Breathe, Be Mary

The Lights Fest

It is an incredible sight to see thousands of lights fly up and is an event that is sure to leave you inspired.

2nd Annual Denver Deluxe Music Festival

The Lowdown: Enjoy some music, brews, art and burgers this Saturday at the 2nd Annual Denver Deluxe Music Festival. The festival invites Denver to enjoy a block party. The beer will be flowing courtesy of 10 Barrel Brewing Co., live artists showcase from RiNo River North Art District and juicy burgers from Park Burger. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the River North Art District. There will be music from Tea Leaf Green, FUTUREBIRDS, Rob Drabkin, The Drunken Hearts, The Velveteers and more.

Denver Pride Rally for Equality

The Lowdown: Fight for your (or others) right to be gay this Sunday! The Pride Rally will showcase the battle for equality that the LGBQT+ community continues to fight. Led by One Colorado, the Colorado LGBT Legislative Caucus and March On Colorado, the LGBQT+ community and supporters are marching through Denver to demand equality.
