“Public School is convergent, it’s aspirational, it’s irreverent, it’s all about attitude.”

You may remember our favorite New York menswear designers, Dao Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourn of Public School NYC. If not you can refresh yourself with that article here.

They’ve recently launched a denim line not that long ago and have just released a capsule collection for J. Crew. They’re joining designers such as Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler in defining New York style. They are definitive of uptown meets downtown, blurring the lines that separate high fashion and street style. The name, Public School, is an ode to native New Yorkers. It’s about growing up with that New York experience – about having to stand out in a crowd where everyone is trying to be original.

Well, fashion’s favorite duo has just come off a CFDA win for menswear line of the year, and their expansion into womenswear, which started with their Fall Winter 2014 collection, is going strong. The collection had elements of menswear showcasing oversize slacks with metallic sheen. The collection was another triumph for the duo, New York street wear at its finest. Osbourne even told the New York Times that, “If it’s perfect, we’re going to show it, but if one percent isn’t to our satisfaction, we have no problem holding it back.” So they showed that all thirteen looks and the response to their take on womenswear were extremely positive. Fashionista.com said the collection was “perfect” and fit easily into their menswear pieces. Style.com, NY Mag, and Vogue were among other critics praising the show.

Their Resort 2015 show has recently been released and the collection consisted of only womenswear. They stayed true to easy going, New York street style with light fabrics and transparencies. The sheer fabrics alongside geometric cutouts added a sexy element, something these two designers are not used to doing. Pleated skits contrasted with drawstring pants and woven boucle moto jackets made for a very diverse, trailblazing collection. The fashion world is pumped for what is next to come from two very innovative designers.  You can view all nineteen pieces and learn more about Public School NYC at their website here.
