Labor Day weekend has come and gone but temperatures are still hot hot hot!!! This is good news for us because it means we get to hang onto that summer sunshine for a little longer. So why not ditch your Colorado native status for a weekend and jump into full on tourist mode? I can’t think of a better way to do that then to check into a cozy B&B and hit all of those tourist attractions you have always wanted to see but never got around to. The Queen Anne Bed & Breakfast is located in downtown Denver and not far from some of Denver’s most popular attractions. The B&B also has ties to Colorado history. It was originally home to the Tabor family. For those who may need a history refresher, Horace Tabor became wealthy when he, along with two miners, struck silver in Leadville. He and is family then moved to Denver in 1879. The Queen Anne opened in 1987.

The Bed: Incorporating art, romance and unforgettable Mile High views, this B&B is ready to accommodate a couple looking to get away on a second honeymoon or a group of friends looking to explore all Denver has to offer. Lets say that you’re looking for an experience that will intrigue your appreciation for art. Then a few nights in one of the B&B’s local artist suites is right up your alley. Local Artist Suite 1, decorated by Rachel Znerold, features a log fireplace, king size bed, whirlpool jet tub and eye-catching paintings that mostly contain the color blue. This suite is perfect for those who are not quite ready to let go of summer but don’t object to the idea of curling up in front of a fireplace during a chilly evening either. This suite is priced at $215 a night plus tax. On the other hand, maybe you’re looking for a getaway that will clench your thirst for the perfect Denver skyline. Then I would tell you that the Rooftop Room is the one for you. Enjoy a breathtaking Colorado sunset in your heated jetted spa, big enough to fit two and located on your private deck. This room is also priced at $215 a night plus tax.
The Breakfast: Before hitting the town and experiencing the Mile High City like never before, you’re going to need two very important things: rest and energy. Since The Bed portion of the B&B has you covered on rest it’s only fitting that they help you out with energy too. Well the B&B is definitely two steps ahead with its deliciously fresh breakfast served from 7:15-9:15 a.m. daily. The B&B is dedicated to supporting Colorado’s economy by purchasing as many local ingredients as possible. Meals include: a stack of waffles topped with powdered sugar, a generous portion of fresh fruit and of course a side of syrup; potato pancakes served with homemade yogurt, beets and potatoes and a southwestern style omelet made with local eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and a plum jam for dipping. The B&B also offers a daily happy hour from 5:30-7 p.m. where guests are welcome to enjoy Colorado wines and cheese.

The Adventure: I have lived in Denver my whole life and have only been to a few of the cities must-see attractions. The Molly Brown House for instance, never been there, which quite honestly is a shame. Better known as the “unsinkable” Molly Brown, you may recognize her name as one of the surviving passengers from the Titanic. The house is a museum in celebration of Molly Brown’s life. However, I am not completely useless as a Colorado native. Some of my most fond memories were made at Elitch Gardens. The park offers a wide range of entertaining shows, special events, food options, arcades and of course rides. With options suitable for children, families and teenagers ready to scream their heads off, you really have to try to not have a good time. The park is opened Saturdays and Sundays during September and October. It’s also open select Fridays in October.
