Like so many vintage lovers, I can talk about vintage clothes, eras and styles until we’re both blue in the face– but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and sometimes the best kind of inspiration is visual inspiration. So this week, I’m going to share with you some really great sites featuring vintage style as worn by girls who specialize in making vintage their own.

I know that not everyone reading this has the same shape, style or taste, so I’m sharing style inspiration from girls both lean and curvy, with tastes that vary from classic to edgy. I think you’ll see that vintage can easily be made your own– whatever your own is.

First up is one of my favorites, Ms. Jessica Virgin of Vintage Virgin (http://msvintagevirgin.blogspot.com/). Yes, Virgin is her real last name. Jessica’s style is super edgy and fun, with piles of accessories and her own, inspiring brand of rock n’ roll chic. Jessica specializes in body conscious, psychedelic outfits that feature lots of pops of color and huge, towering heels and wedges. Her style is fresh, exciting and all her own.

In somewhat the same vein as Jessica Virgin, we have Nasty Gal (http://blog.nastygal.com). Formerly known as Nasty Gal Vintage, Nasty Gal has expanded into vintage reproduction and some modern designs, as well. Nasty Gal is certainly a great resource if you want to order the pieces that inspire you, but I’ve found that their Lookbooks can be real gems for the vintage neophyte– they fearlessly mix vintage and modern items in a way that evokes the same sort of rock goddess, with-the-band vibe that Jessica Virgin does so flawlessly. Nasty Gal’s blog is always being updated with new items, lookbooks and interviews.

For those of you who may prefer a more classic and refined approach to dressing, check out the blog from Shrimpton Couture (http://www.fabulousgirlswearvintage.com/). I could spend hours on the Shrimpton Couture website, drooling over their gorgeous designer clothes and super rare, hard-to-find pieces. On their blog, they share gorgeous lookbooks alongside pics of employees and customers decked out in Shrimpton’s elegant, exquisite and ever-expanding collection of vintage clothing. This site is a real find for women who love the look of luxury. In addition to their lookbooks, Shrimpton Couture’s blog is excellent for seeing what vintage looks from all over the web inspire their buyers.

Finally, for curvier girls who want to find vintage style inspiration, I recommend The Vintage Curvette (http://vintagecurvette.com). This 19 year old cutie hails from Brisbane, Australia and she really has a way with finding thrifted goodies that compliment her lovely, curvy form. You’ll be inspired by the looks she puts together and the low prices she pays for some of her vintage gems. She’s definitely one to watch– and be inspired by.
