Not too long ago, this blogger felt unmotivated, bored and just over writing blogs in general but while browsing through an airport bookstore, I ran into a section of books the store associate mentioned was “perfect for plane rides”. The books were basically just short stories, fun facts or useless banter and didn’t require you to read all at once…perfect for a guy like me, who can only stay awake for short spurts on plane rides due to my massive fear of flying, claustrophobia and overall anxiety. As I glanced through the various titles, I realized something, these were all books that began as blogs. Hmm…

Shuffling through the books, I ran into a book that brought back a flood of memories that all involved hysterical laughing. It was an oldie but a goodie, a book that no doubt has been passed around or sparked a few water cooler conversations…

There once was a man named Tucker Max. His book, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell, is degrading, disgusting, arrogant and quite possibly one of the funniest books, I’ve ever had the chance to read.

The book, that began as a blog, is basically just a bunch of gut busting, humiliating and down right disgusting stories from the life and times of Tucker Max. The book manages to make men looks like total douche bags, women look like desperate whores, and gay men look like sluts unable to accept the words “I’m straight” and despite being completely offended at some of his remarks, you just can’t stop reading.

The New York Times Bestselling author is set to release his follow-up, Assholes Finish First, on September 28, 2010. Also, if you’re too lazy to read, head to your local Blockbuster and snag the film version of his first novel…although I must say, it’s not nearly as good as the book.

Another book on the table that caught my attention was the blog turned book, Stuff White People Like by Christian Lander. As a sort of mutt of races (Caucasian being one of them), I was intrigued by the blog in mid-2008. I figured I grew up in white society, I’m part white…let’s see if some of this applies to me. Most of it did.

From the obsession with Farmer’s Markets and organic foods to camping and watching, Mad Men. The book is a light-hearted take on funny stereotypes. Most of which apply to more than just white people.

Christian Lander has appeared on quite a few daytime talk shows, including It’s On with Alexa Chung (too bad the show was canceled) all because he managed to write about something so stereotypical that people had no choice but to laugh. I give the blogger mucho, mucho credit and I applaud his creativity.

Check out his blog, StuffWhitePeopleLike.com, if you want to see the full list. My personal favorites include 14, 17, 67, 88, 116 and 124. And to keep it local and relevant, I would like to give a shout out to number 33. I believe Denver in general loves this one.

Finally, the last book that caught my attention, was the increasingly popular twitter turned book, Sh*t My Dad Says. Although, I haven’t read the book itself the twitter is basically what the title says. Twenty-nine year old Justin Halpern literally just records some of the unpredictable, wildly hilarious things his seventy-four year old dad says on a daily basis. I look forward to reading the book, on my next long plane ride.

Other noteworthy blog to books include; This Is Why You’re Fat, Pets Who Want to Kill Themselves, Postcards From Yo Momma, and Fail Nation the book based on the Fail Blog.

So what’s the point of this? If bloggers and tweeters are signing books deals everyday for their rants and random stories, The Odd Couple certainly needs to step up our game…maybe one day we will have our very own New York Times best seller…

A guy can dream right? So any ideas on what we should blog about? (we’re looking for ideas that might get us a book deal…)
