El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote to You about Africa
Anatsui’s artwork captures the culture and history of Africa from the Akan people of Ghana to the Atlantic slave-trade. He uses different colors, textures and mediums for this exhibit to create sculptures, ceramics, wall hangings and more along with the contributions by many other artists and professors. A Day in Pompeii
What would your last moments look like? This upcoming exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science takes you on a tour of this and much more. Preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79, the last actions of victims remain in form. Casts of these forms along with jewelry, coins, household items and more will be on display, sending you back to the ancient way of life. Opening on September 14, the artifacts and exhibit will be on display through January 13, 2013. Take the journey and discover the volcanic end of Pompeii.
Hilos at Museo de las Americas

For over 20 years now, Museo de las Americas has been connecting the Denver community with exquisite collections from the Americas. The exhibition, HILOS, will be on display starting this Thursday until January, but who wants to miss the opening reception. If you are wondering about the name, like I was myself… HILOS, are threads that are connecting the entire collection to the museum’s past exhibits. The artistry is going to be one- of- a- kind and we are fortunate enough to have it in our own backyard.
Denver Plein Air Arts Festival

It feels like the community is now an art hot spot, which it is indeed turning out to be. To add to all the artsy events happening around town, Denver Plein Air Arts Festival is happening from now until December 31st. En plein air meaning “in the open air” in French, allows this festival to display pieces that have been created to represent the outdoors. Over 110 pieces have been chosen for this show, and to know that there were over three hundred submitted is incredible. This festival is the largest plein air event to hit this country, so who wouldn’t want to miss it!
