This weekend, Denver will be dominated by the Great American Beer Festival and the slew of its affiliated events at bars and breweries all over the city. Suitcase Party

The Lowdown: Pack a bag because you and a friend might be jet setting to Las Vegas at the end of this party. Your ticket is your potential boarding pass at City Hall this Thursday. Buckle in for DJ sets, an open bar, prize-packed suitcase giveaways and for one lucky person an all-expense-paid trip to Vegas. The event is raising money for Denver Gives and Global Orphan Protection. Sixty dollars will get you into the party but the $80 tickets get you on the raffle list to win the trip. The plane to Vegas will board at the end of the party and if that sounds exciting then raise the stakes, because for every $20 over the ticket price you donate you earn another raffle ticket.

Ignite Denver 24

The Lowdown: In the past years, “TED Talks” have become this huge phenomenon in information sharing and local organization. Ignite Denver is taking the “TED” model and making it fast-paced, localized and more fun. At Ignite, 20 pre-selected slides flash quickly on the screen behind presenters who have picked their own topic and feel they have something worthwhile to share in five minutes. This Thursday, eight speakers will present their ideas on everything from social media oversharing to the future landscape of businesses in America.

Gin Docs at Infinite Monkey Theorem

The Lowdown: Cult favorite the Gin Doctors, are back turning up the ’90s music at local winery Infinite Monkey Theorem this Thursday. Dance the night away while imbibing every varietal you can think of. The show starts at 8 p.m. with Spud Nation food truck on hand for all your potato-related needs.

Magic Men Live

The Lowdown: The Magic Men strip tease extravaganza is coming to the Bellco Theater this Thursday night. This event is an enjoyable touring version of the “Magic Mike” movie fanchise. These extremely attractive men have everything: eight packs, dance moves and a ton of audience involvement. Ticket prices correlate to how close you get to the stage, so choose carefully, because who knows when the Magic Men will appear again.

Re-Opening of MCA: A Mercurial Garden Party

The Lowdown: The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) is back after a brief closure. This weekend in downtown Denver, they will premiere their fall openings with a garden party. Enjoy the rooftop DJ, check out the new installations, marvel at wandering performers and indulge in the bars scattered about the premises. VIP tickets will get you into the event an hour early to browse galleries ahead of the crowd as well as special VIP bars, VIP bathrooms and two drink tickets right off the bat.

Night of the Living Dead Live Performance

The Lowdown: The Bug Theater is kicking off their annual month of the living dead live performances. The original cult classic film Night of the Living Dead is celebrated with a modern twist, a live audience and the palpable tension of watching people trapped in an abandoned house trying to keep the zombie hoards at bay. 2016’s theme for the show will be urban legends.

Punkin Chunkin

The Lowdown: The annual Punkin Chunkin contest is taking place this weekend and people travel from all over the state to see how far they can throw a pumpkin. You may remember this competition from its television appearance on Discovery channel’s Myth Busters. If you think you can hurl a pumpkin better than anyone else, stop by and compete, but also come for live music, food, a beer garden and two days of car shows.

Colorado Cornhole Championships

Indigenous Film & Arts Festival Premier

Stop by Sunday night for the film premier of, Message from Mungo, a film chronicling the relationship between Australia’s modern native population and the discovery of the oldest remains in the country. There will be a dessert and coffee discussion after the movie.
