It’s that time of the year again folks! Day’s are getting longer, nights are finally warm and Independence Day is again once upon us. Summer’s in Colorado are never short on inexpensive things to do outside. Art walks, farmer’s markets and beer festivals are all in full swing throughout our state’s warmer months, and the Fourth is one of the best days to get out, get active, and join the fun. Elitch Gardens

  • Where:  Elitch Gardens Denver
  • When:  July 4 @ dusk (around 8:30 p.m.)
  • Cost:  Free with purchase of Elitches ticket
  • Lowdown: Head to Elitches, right in the heart of Downtown Denver to watch the city skyline light up. Amusement park by day and spectacular fireworks display by night, this is one show you won’t want to miss.

Dick’s Sporting Good Park

  • Where: Dick’s Sporting Goods Park
  • When: July 4th, After Colorado Rapids game (game’s @ 7 p.m.)
  • Cost: Free with purchase of Rapids ticket
  • Lowdown: For those attending the Rapids game this coming Monday, July 4, be sure to stick around for a fireworks display directly following the conclusion of the soccer game.

Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium

  • Where:  Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium
  • When:  July 4th, after Outlaw’s Game
  • Cost:  Firework show free with purchase of $10 Outlaw’s ticket.
  • Lowdown:  Again to those sports fans out there: stadiums are a great place to watch fireworks, so if you happen to be at the game, make sure to hang around a bit longer and check out the show.

Civic Center Park in Denver

  • Where: Civic Center Park in Denver
  • When:  July 3 @ 8 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown:  Coloradoan’s travel from many surrounding cities just for this particular show put on at the state’s capitol building every year. Civic Center Park has been a longtime staple in Colorado for an amazing fireworks and light display. This show, however, does take place on the 3, making it an Independence Day Eve celebration.

Outside of Denver

 Folsom Field, Boulder

  • Where: Folsom Field in Boulder, CO
  • When: July 4 @ 9:40 p.m. sharp.
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: Head to over Boulder for live music from The Mighty Twisters starting at 8:30 p.m. as well as appearances from The Mad Hops jump rope team and CU’s own mascot, Ralphie. 

Old Town, Fort Collins 

  • Where: Fort Collins, CO. Old Town/City Park
  • When: July 4 3 -11 p.m.
  •  Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: Fort Collins is the place to be if biking and brews are what you seek. The early afternoon will consist of a patriotic bike parade through historic Old Town, followed by live music, kids activities, food vendors, local brewery tents and a fireworks show beginning at 9:35pm in City Park.

Stenger Sports Complex, Arvada 

  • Where:  Arvada, CO. Lutz/Stenger Sports Complex 58th ave. & Oak St.
  • When: July 4, @ 4-10 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: Live music, food, and activities will all kick off the day. And beginning at 9pm, be sure to catch the fireworks show.

 

Highlands Ranch-Town Center

  • Where: Highlands Ranch-Town Center
  • When: July 4, 9:15 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: Family fun can be found all day with activities and food, games and live music. Fireworks kick off at 9:15 sharp.

Aurora Municipal Center

  • Where: Aurora Municipal Center, Alameda Parkway
  • When: July 4th 4-10 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: Come to Aurora for a day filled with festivity. A hot dog eating contest, live music and a car show all precede a firework show beginning at 9pm.

Iron Horse Park, Fort Carson

  • Where:  Fort Carson, CO. Iron Horse Park
  • When: July 3
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: Fort Carson and the 4th Infantry Division will host a Fourth of July celebration on July 3. From 4-10 p.m. there will be kids games, live music, and food & goods vendors, all concluding with a fireworks show.

 

City Park, Westminster

  • Where: Westminster, CO. City Park 10475 Sheridan blvd.
  • When: July 4, 4-10 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: This Fourth of July celebration will include and activity zone for kids, a beer garden presented by Bender’s, a car show and live music, as well as a fireworks display beginning at 9:15 p.m.

Carpenter Park, Thorton 

  • Where: Thornton, CO. Carpenter Park 108th ave. & Colorado blvd.
  • When: July 4 4-10 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Lowdown: This Fourth of July celebration will have all the expected amusements such as a beer garden, live music and food vendors, but the celebration in Thornton will also boast skydivers who will jump at 9:30 p.m. Once they land, the fireworks display will commence.
