Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and acclaimed chef Javier Plascencia shared a roof Wednesday, April 27, when the governor dined at LOLA Mexican Fish House. Chef Plascencia—a Tijuana native and internationally recognized forerunner in Baja-Med cuisine—was in town to collaborate with LOLA chefs Jamey Fader and Dave Query.

Chef Plascencia’s current restaurants include Mission 19 and Erizo in Tijuana, Villa Saverious in Valle de Guadalupe and the James Beard-nominated Bracero Cocina de Raiz in San Diego. Hickenlooper dined at an industry lunch, which was in preparation for the sold-out, six-course dinner that followed that night.

Mission Yogurt, Inc., the Denver-based restaurant group, will open Que Bueno Suerte! with chef Dana Rodriguez of Work & Class as consulting chef and Vincente Sosa as executive chef. Rodriguez’s consulting role will center on menu development and food cost, allowing Sosa to take control of the kitchen.

The restaurant will take over 1518 South Pearl Street—formerly home to Session Kitchen, in Denver’s Platte Park neighborhood—and will serve modern, eclectic Mexican cuisine for lunch and dinner with plans to offer a late-night component.

An opening date has yet to be confirmed.

Tres Chiles Mexican Grille Coming to Tennyson Street

Adding to a burgeoning Berkeley neighborhood, Tres Chiles Mexican Grille will soon open, as reported by Westword. Housed in the former American Family Insurance building at 3900 Tennyson Street on the south side of the Hops & Pie parking lot, the building is undergoing a complete overhaul.

Details are sparse, but the Mexican eatery lists Nicolas Medina, who previously ran a furniture store and Mexican art gallery, as president.

An opening date has yet to be confirmed.

From Thursday, May 5 through Sunday, May 8, the Williams & Graham staff will be on their annual staff vacation—but that doesn’t mean the drinks won’t be flowing at the LoHi speakeasy. Taking over 3160 Tejon Street will be three bartenders from San Francisco’s celebrated Trick Dog, who will bring their own menus and reservation policy, according to Eater Denver.

Trick Dog opened in 2013 in the Mission district of San Francisco, and has since been a finalist and semi-finalist for a James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar Program in 2015 and 2014, respectively. The bar was also recognized as having the Best American Bar team at the Spirited Awards in 2014 and was listed among the finalists for World’s Best Cocktail Menu and Best American Cocktail Bar, the latter of which Williams & Graham was awarded.

The Trick Dog pop-up will maintain a first-come, first-served policy.
