Friendship and good advice can go a long way when any one of us is in or has been placed into the on-again off-again dating merry-go-round. As Karina Smirnoff, Dancing with the Stars Mirror Ball Trophy winner and professional competitive dancer states “Dating should be fun; dating should be exciting and yet dating is never easy.”

We’re Just Not That Into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches is a book that everyone who has ever been in the dating scene can relate to. “This book was born out of a long friendship where two best friends would share their stories and ask for advice and become the voice of reason to one another,” smiles Karina and continues “My best friend, Lindsay Rielly and I have gone on many dates in our quest for love and after numerous “You are not going to believe what happened” moments we realized we had so many stories, lessons, mistakes and signs to share with our readers that it had to be put in a book. This book is a clever and funny way to learn from our mistakes so you don’t have to make your own.”

We all know that dating is hard enough but place yourself in the realms of celebrity and the entertainment industry and one can only imagine that it doesn’t get any easier. “Dating in the entertainment industry and especially in its capital, Hollywood is even more difficult. My favorite way of spending a Friday night is by cooking dinner and playing board games, but in LA most of the social life happens by going to various entertainment events where its difficult to really get to know people,” states Karina.

“This book was initially written for women who are in the dating scene and find it challenging to find love, but as the book evolved, we realized that it is equally for men as it is for women,” smiles Karina. “The lessons that are in the book can be learned and applied by both men and women to make our dating lives a little easier.”

What may or may not be known about Karina to her fans is that she has “had many jobs and several careers and without a doubt I have learned the depths of failure and success in everyday decisions and errors, but the most important lesson that I have learned from all of this is that no matter what,” as she takes a deep breath and lets it out, “follow your heart and passion, don’t give up and stay true to your values.”

“We all set expectations, we work hard and we expect the results, so when you are recognized for your work both indirectly and directly for your talents, it means that everything that you believed in, strived for and sweat, bled and teared up over, was worth it,” states Karina. “God graces many people with talent, but it is what you do with it that truly counts. I fell in love with dancing and artistic expression. I worked my hardest to turn the talent into a skill.” Even with the talent and skill that Karina has achieved; winning the National Professional title multiple times; becoming 2nd in the world and achieving “tremendous results with multiple dance partners”; winning the “coveted Mirror Ball Trophy, but the recognition that counts the most is from my family and fans,” smiles Karina and continues with a twinkle in her eyes “When I get a letter, tweets or voicemails saying that I made them cry with my dance or when I get a letter from a fan saying how much they were moved with a certain performance, this is when I feel the most accomplished and also challenged to keep on going to strive for more.”

What keeps Karina sane? “Love,” smiling, looking up to the heavens and continuing, “Love is what drives me every day. Love is what fuels my dancing and passion. Love is what gives me wings. Love is what makes me crazy and my belief in love is what keeps me sane that is why I wanted to share my lessons and mistakes with everyone in the book. People who are in love are happy. So the belief in happily ever after is what keeps me sane.”

Karina believes that the three keys to her success have been: “Energy; what you put out into the universe will come back. Stamina and Focus; concentrate your focus and hard work on the right things; the things you want to achieve in life.” And third, “Sensitivity and Flexibility; being kind to others and flexible in your journey.”

Karina finds her inspiration from her parents who have been married for 36 years. “I see them smile at each other every day and I am hopeful and optimistic that this type of love is possible in my life. We all make mistakes but as long as we come from a place of love, everything is possible. We’re Just Not That Into You is a book that everyone can relate to. We all work, we strive and if we learn from our mistakes and grow, we can accomplish anything!” stated with hope and confidence.
