Metal Meltdown: 1349, Unearth, Machine Head

This week has some serious powerhouse tours coming through, featuring some very well-known and loved bands. The theme of this week is bigger acts and serious line-ups, so bust out that coveted metal show fund for some tickets, merch, and pricy drinks. Now is the time to blow that hard earned cash!

Machine Head @ Summit Music Hall – Tuesday Feb. 17th

Oakland, Calif. groove metallers Machine Head will be gracing Summit Music Hall with their presence and only theirs this Tuesday for a special “An Evening With…” concert. Hot on the release of last year’s Bloodstones and Diamonds, Machine Head are treating metalheads to an evening of just them, in which they’re bound to play songs spanning their storied 23 year career as one of metal’s most prolific modern bands. Their 2008 album The Blackening was named the best metal album of the decade by Metal Hammer, and their impact on modern metal cannot be understated. If you’re a Colorado metalhead, go and headbang to your heart’s content at this must-catch show!

1349 @ The Marquis – Wednesday, Feb. 18th

If crushing death metal and awesome, epic black metal is your thing, then you won’t want to miss this special show. 1349 rule as leaders of of trve black metal in the grand tradition of groups like Dark Throne, but with a modern intensity and anger. Origin are one of the heaviest and most innovative death metal bands out there today, and will no doubt make an awesome accompaniment to the different but equally awesome offerings of 1349. Add in Abysmal Dawn, who play crushing technical death metal, and local group Eye of Minerva, and you have an awesome show on your hands!

Unearth @ The Marquis – Thursday, Feb. 19th

Speaking of headbanging to your heart’s content, Boston metalcore masters Unearth will be laying waste to the Marquis Theater this Thursday in what is the band’s first show in Denver in two years! Head out there for an evening full of crushing breakdowns, killer riffs and the mind-blowing guitar acrobatics of Buz McGrath and Ken Susi. Denver’s metal scene will also be generously represented, as local bands Come Forth by Day, Make Way and IAMTHESHOTGUN are opening the night! Bring your moshing shoes!

Cryogen @ The Marquis – Friday, Feb. 20th

Maybe you are seriously craving some metal this weekend, but don’t have the cash to check out some of these larger tours. In that case, you may want to check out this all-local show on Friday at The Marquis. Cryogen from Colorado, who are poised to release their second album with Denver producing great Dave Otero, are playing their final show. They will be joined by other local groups Stratagem, It’s Always Sunny in Tijuana, and Ploy for Extinction. This one’s on a weekend night and will only cost you ten bucks, so you’ve got no excuses!
