Sexy Burlesque-y: SuicideGirls Flaunt Their Ink at Summit Music Hall

suicidegirls5They’ve got five million unique visitors to their site each month, about 50/50 men and women. Over twelve million Facebook fans. In the time it takes you to read this post, they’ll probably have about six or seven new fans, depending how fast you read, since a new fan is added about every ten seconds. They have two million YouTube videos. It’s no wonder their Black Heart Burlesque show has sold out Summit Music Hall this upcoming Saturday, October 19. After all, it’s the SuicideGirls.

These smoking hot, inked up babes are coming to Denver this weekend to flaunt their “alternative beauty” in our humble faces. Their thriving (what an understatement) online community of pierced and tattooed pin-up chicks come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and attitudes. Their founder, Missy Suicide, created the site in Portland in 2001 “as an alternative to the mainstream media’s obsession with the silicone enhanced Barbie dolls and the incredible shrinking starlets.” She prides her models on their sense of individualism, confidence, and refusal to conform.

Their ranks are numbered at about 2,500 SuicideGirls from every continent, including Antarctica. They receive 1,000 applications a week. In short, they’re slowly but surely taking over the world.

suicidegirls4But their website provides much more than just nudie photos. There is extraordinary depth and vibrant personality behind these punk rock, indie chicks. The girls maintain online journals and blogs, chronicling their daily lives and habits. Details range from books they’re currently reading to images of their original artwork to updates on their progress at achieving their black belt in karate. The website also includes light reading material, such as interviews with Rob Zombie or Karen O. And SuicideGirls have movie downloads and clothing available for purchase on their site.

What can we expect from the Blackheart Burlesque performance? Button busting sexiness, I’m sure. And boobies. Definately boobies. But what sets these girls apart from the rest is their confidence, their cockiness, their spunk and their attitudes. They own their bodies and I’ll bet they’ll own that stage. And I’d venture so far as to say it’ll probably be pret-ty kinky, too.

suicidegirls1Touring for the first time since their six year hiatus, the girls will put on a show unlike any others. The combination of raw erotica spliced with tongue-in-cheek humor will include stripteases that satire the Big Lebowski, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, and Pulp Fiction.

That barista chick with the purple hair that you buy coffee from every morning. The girl who works at your favorite thrift store with the chest tattoo and the pierced septum who always wears mismatched knee socks and Chuck Taylors. That hottie you saw skateboarding down Colfax the other day with the half shaved head and hot pink lip liner. Your secret crush from high school who wore too much eyeliner and always carried around that giant sketchbook. They’re those girls. Not your average 34-24-34 model.

If you can scrounge up a ticket, the Blackheart Burlesque Show is at the Summit Music Hall on Saturday at 8pm. Tickets are priced at $20 and the show is ages 18+. Some have said that the SuicideGirls are “too uninhibited.” I think not.

Allison Cohn loves gold spray paint and nonsense. She also has a very difficult time sitting still and keeping quiet. She can often be found dancing like a fool when she isn’t hiding out in her mountain lair or gallivanting around the globe.
