Highbrow/Lowbrow: A weekly update on Denver culture from deliciously fancy to wonderfully mundane

Denver’s abundance of outdoor events continues to heat up in July and as you know, I am always on the quest for another entertaining event to share with my fellow mile-high denizens. If you are looking for a little gem of a getaway from the stress of the week, check out the Sunset Stroll at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The Sunset Stroll occurs every second Wednesday through the end of August. The focus is relaxation and peace in the midst of an idyllic urban oasis, currently with bloomage reminiscent of the firework sprays enjoyed over the 4th sans the noise. A perfect botanic curtain call it is.

The scenic saunter in the garden, yoga sessions, drums circles, and the ear candy of “Sing out Louis” (a select group from the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus) melt away the tension like a good shiatsu. Magic hour, the time that the sun is just setting on the horizon, provides the light so relished by the best cinematographers.  You will understand why as you are bathed in the tangerine glow of your botanical sojourn.

A major bonus to the evening is the “Catalyst Colorado Sculpture” exhibit currently residing in the yards. This exhibit features the work of twelve local sculpture artists. The sculptures add a unique, interesting and harmonious element as well as photo op along the stroll.

This bouillabaisse of eclectic components somehow all works, like a comfort food meal followed by a warm candlelit soak. I highly suggest packing your yoga mat, picnic (stop by Pinche Tacqueria nearby on East Colfax for some delightful finger food ), pop a new SIM card in your camera and get your zen on.
