Summer drummer

Summer is slowly slipping away. The height of festival season is behind us and students are going back to school (anyone else catch the dubstep-soundtracked K-Mart commercial?). I’m keenly aware of summer’s impending departure, seizing every opportunity to savor its remaining rays in choice nearby places like Aspen, Eldorado Springs and even St. Mary’s Glacier.

Sure, Colorado has 300 days of sunshine a year, but that doesn’t mean Red Rocks’ concert season isn’t coming to a September end. Fortunately, there’s still a few killer shows worth seeing before it’s all said and done til next spring. Savoy, onetime Boulderites who’ve since relocated to New York, headline the ruddy amphitheatre on September 7. Livetronica act Lotus plays the following day. Devotchka reunites with the Colorado Symphony for the first time since its goosebump-inducing February collaborations on September 20—guaranteed to be an extraordinary, unforgettable performance. Big Gigantic, Boulderites who haven’t yet skipped town for greener pastures, jam out in acoustic paradise September 29. And Peter Gabriel, one of my top five favorite male vocalists of all-time, closes out the month.

Carpe noctem.
