We’ve all heard the “you can have a cookie after you’re done with your meal” lecture, but what about the “you can have a cookie after your run” speech? Turns out the old dangling a carrot trick works on humans too—just make sure that you substitute Otis Spunkmeyer cookies and Royal Crest Dairy milk for that carrot. Make-A-Wish Foundation Colorado is having their third annual Cookie Chase, previously known as the Race for Wishes, this Saturday, April 14th, in Greenwood Village. Run or walk in the certified and timed 5K Race or the 1K Family Fun Run—just keep thinking about all those cookies at the finish line.

Make the race even more exciting and get a team together to run and fund-raise—last year the Top Fundraising Team raised around $4,000 and, all together, the race raised about $20,000 in donations and pledges. All participants will receive a long-sleeved shirt, goodie bag and a medallion at the finish line, but the top three male and female 5K runners will also receive trophies. The Cookie Chase’s Top Individual Fundraiser and Top Fundraising Team will receive plaques as prizes.

Don’t worry, there will be enough cookies for everyone—an estimated 3,000 cookies will be provided and there will be plenty of chocolate, strawberry, and regular milk to wash those cookies down with. Still worried that you won’t get your fill of cookies? You can help Make-A-Wish Colorado fulfill this year’s $35,000 fundraising goal by buying tubs of pre-portioned Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough at the event to take home with you—a portion of the sales (cash or check only) goes straight back to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Stay after the race to enjoy live music, entertainment, activities like cookie decorating and arcade games. Get some exercise in, dunk some cookies in milk, and, if the fundraising goal is met, grant at least four (almost five) wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions—even if you lose the 5K race, the Cookie Chase still sounds like a win-win event to me.

Sign up online until Thursday night at midnight or show up Saturday morning—registration opens at 9 a.m. and the 5K begins at 10 a.m.
