Cannabytes: Stoned Paddy’s Day

Ah, Saint Patrick’s Day–the day when we’re all a little Irish, when we celebrate Saint Patrick chasing the snakes out of Ireland or… Drinking, or something. Everyone’s excited to don “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” T-shirts and get sloshed on green beer today, but there’s a safer and naturally greener way to celebrate today.

Remember that marijuana is a safer alternative to alcohol–and you don’t even have to dye it green to celebrate your (perhaps dubious) Irish heritage. Empire State NORML has a yearly event on Saint Patrick’s Day to rally for the end of cannabis prohibition and celebrate the holiday minus the green puke. As their Facebook event page this year says: “St. Patrick’s Day is notoriously a day when consumption of alcohol, a drug that can be incredibly harmful but is celebrated in our society, prevails, while the continued criminalization of marijuana, a safer alternative, results in abuses, harm and unjust prosecutions.”

So instead of heading to your nearest Irish pub for Guinness and Jameson, pack your pipe with something that’s really green and have a Stoned Saint Paddy’s. Unfortunately, Denver doesn’t have any events like the one in New York. Want to see one get started? Contact your local NORML chapter and ask them about starting a greener Saint Paddy’s Day celebration.
