The only thing better than designer fashion is local designer fashion, and Denver Designers Market now has plenty of it up for grabs. The market, which opened on Nov. 19 at Kinga’s Lounge in the heart of Cap Hill, offers one-of-a-kind items that are great for holiday gifts as well as for personal splurges. Run by Monice Mills (co-director), Myisha McCarthy (co-director) and Dondrae Mills (marketing), Denver Designers Market is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., except in January, when vendors will work on replenishing their stock. Denver Designers Market will open again on Feb. 3. “We transform the lounge every Saturday morning into a market-type environment,” Mills says. “We decided to launch the market because it is something we ourselves desired to attend, and we noticed we have a talented community of designers here in Denver.”

Some of the local lines currently available include Camille Falk (lightweight earrings made from local vintage and up-cycled beads), Amber Bath (natural spa items like bath salts, lotions and creams), Adelea (earthy, feminine and fun jewelry), Too and From (high-quality handmade leather wallets and handbags) and Baby Bean (cute baby and kids clothing by a former designer at Baby Gap). “We have been on a constant hunt for the highest quality product and the most unique lines,” Mills says. “This combination is what we are looking for – the absolute best Denver has to offer.

So while you’re out doing your holiday shopping this year, it might be a good idea to stop by Kinga’s Lounge. Think of it this way: You’ll surprise your friends and family with something distinctive, and you can get a drink while avoiding the crowds at the mall – always a major plus. Keep your eyes peeled for jewelry ranging from $15 to $100 and handbags from $35 to $150. Denver Designers Market also has a few smaller accessory designers that start at $10 per piece. “You can get so much variety in one location, not to mention the quality of work that you’re getting for the price,” Mills says.

Another thing to think about: If you’re a local designer, you might want to get in on the action. It’s one more outlet where you can show your stuff and be a part of Denver’s up-and-coming fashion scene. “We are so excited to have begun this journey,” Mills adds. “The people that are working with us are so amazing, and we can’t wait to show them off to the city every Saturday. We are always on the lookout for talented people who want an opportunity to sell directly to the community. Anyone interested can always call or email us. We would love to talk to them.”
