When I think of school spirit, I start reminiscing about pep rallies (the ones I didn’t skip), football games (both the high school games with a pack of friends on chilly Friday nights, as well as all-day Saturday tailgating parties during college), and, yes, even cheer leading tryouts (my most embarrassing moment ever). What happened? Oh, I had my Toe Touch and Herkie jumps down pat all right, but one look at the hottest guy in school sitting front and center at the judges’ table, and all working knowledge of the routines went right out the gymnasium window. Then, I ran out of there crying like in the movies. Yep, it took awhile to come out of the bathroom stall, but, once I did, I was able to join in the laughter. (Said hunk and I even later ended up dating, so the moral of the story is um…Gooooo Team!) See? I think of school spirit, and all kinds of things start to emerge.

So, on to these super cute hoodies and tees that I found by Sport Couture Apparel. Yes, my days of high school woe are behind me now, and so are those boxy t-shirts that never really look good on anyone. Instead, Colorado high school and college students can now show their school spirit in much edgier fashion. Colorado natives Cindy King and Vicky Hammond, who started Sport Couture Apparel in 2009, are offering shapely and stylish apparel sporting local school and/or team emblems in funky designs. “We decided to start Sport Couture as we saw a need in the marketplace for stylish, well-fitting, fashionable spirit wear,” Hammond says. “We translate fashion trends into a casual couture apparel line for the college and high school marketplace.”

The stylish tops feature thoughtful details, slimming silhouettes and eye-catching logo application. So far, the apparel is available at Colorado State University (bookstore), University of Denver (bookstore) and Littleton High School (in the Littleton Public School Stadium during football games). “We plan to expand to Colorado University and are actively pursuing business in all of the local high schools in the Denver metro area,” Hammond says.

Female students are raving about the NEON Burnout Hoodies, the OMG V-Neck Tees and the 2QT4SKL Tunic, to name just a few of the designs. Too bad there’s no Broncos gear, but we’re keeping an eye out for when that day comes. “We will look at expanding into the NFL, NBA, etc. once we are well established in the college and high school markets,” Hammond says. Until then, we’ll continue to cheer for the success of Sport Couture Apparel and these adorable garments.
