This past Monday, celebrities, designers, socialites and fashion mavens attended the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to introduce the “American Women: Fashioning a National Identity” exhibit. This is not just any ball; this is the granddaddy of all fashion events, arguably, even more so than fashion week.

What makes the grandiose gala so glamorous is that designers attend with celebrity muses wearing their creations. Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein were certainly popular designers of the night, dressing a slew of starts. Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler and Naomi Watts looked leggy and sophisticated in Ms. McCartney, while Zoe Saldana and Daine Kruger appeared chic and statuesque in Francisco Costa’s Calvin Klein collection. The duo behind the artistic Marchesa line was also represented well with celebrities like Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington and Blake Lively wearing there creative confections. Other designers who attended the ball included Vera Wang, Proenza Schouler, Oscar De La Renta, Thakoon, Michael Kors, Phillip Lim, Jason Wu, Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren among others.
